It’s quick, non-invasive, and affordable, making it a perfect option for Jollyville patients who are interested in transforming their smile.

What is Tooth Shaping?

Tooth shaping (also called cosmetic contouring) involves using a putty-like resin to shape your teeth into a more attractive or consistent size and shape. If it sounds kinda like working with clay, you’re not that far off! We start by giving your teeth a good cleaning and then add a special solution to roughen the enamel a bit to help the resin bond well. In some cases, we may also recommend an enamelplasty, which removes a small amount of enamel from your teeth. This can be useful if you have small chips or pits in the surface of the tooth, or to remove points or other irregularities.

Once that’s done, we’ll choose a resin that matches the shade of your teeth to make sure the bonded tooth matches its neighbors. After all, we don’t want it sticking out like a sore tooth, err, thumb! Then, we’ll sculpt and mold the resin, trim it, and then use a UV light to help it harden. The last step is to buff and polish the tooth so it looks completely natural. The entire process takes around 30 minutes to an hour per tooth.

At your appointment, we’ll also give you tips on how to maintain your newly bonded teeth. But don’t worry, most of it is probably what you’re already doing! Keep up with brushing, flossing, regular check-ups and cleanings, and you’re golden! We also recommend avoiding foods and beverages that can cause staining, but we know that can be tricky. You can still enjoy coffee, wine, and other tooth-staining culprits – just make sure to rinse out your mouth or brush your teeth afterward.
