Tooth bonding uses a special resin on your teeth that allows us to shape them into a more aesthetically pleasing shape. In fact, it’s a lot like how a sculptor creates sculptures out of clay! We can use tooth shaping for issues like gaps between teeth, misshapen teeth, or slightly crooked teeth. We can even use it for various types of minor damage, like chips, or discoloration. During the procedure, Dr. Chodavadia & Dr. Patel will apply the resin directly to your teeth and shape it into a pleasing form. Once it looks flawless, we’ll harden the resin using UV light and then polish it up. The whole process only takes about an hour per tooth – and the newly bonded tooth will match perfectly with the rest of your smile! Even better, tooth bonding can last up to 10 years with proper care.
Although most of our East Austin patients are a good candidate for tooth bonding, it’s not recommended if you have cavities, a misaligned jaw, or other oral health issues. However, during your appointment, Dr. Chodavadia & Dr. Patel will take time to get to know you any oral health challenges you might have and to understand your cosmetic goals. Then, he’ll work with you to create the perfect treatment plan to make them a reality. We offer a full range of general dentistry, restorative dentistry, and cosmetic procedures, so whatever your smile needs, we can make it happen!
If you are a good candidate for tooth shaping, we’ll also go over how to care for your bonded teeth. Most of it is pretty much what you’re likely doing already! Brush and floss regularly and make sure to keep up with your 6-month check-ups and cleanings. The only thing that might be a little difficult is to cut back on things that can stain the bonding material, like coffee, tea, and wine. If that’s a deal-breaker for you, you can still enjoy your faves – just make sure to brush your teeth or rinse your mouth afterward.
