Tooth shaping is a great way to quickly address a variety of cosmetic dentistry issues – minor chips, worn edges, irregularly shaped teeth, and stubborn stains. But what does the procedure involve, exactly? Tooth bonding starts with a comprehensive cleaning; once your teeth are squeaky clean, we’ll apply a special solution that will slightly roughen your enamel so the bonding material will have a secure hold. Then, Dr. Gulati will select a resin that matches the color of your tooth and apply it to your teeth. After the resin is sculpted to the proper size and shape, we’ll harden it with a UV light, trim it, and refine it until it looks perfectly natural. Once you’re happy with how it looks, the newly bonded tooth will be buffed and polished and your newly bonded tooth will match perfectly with the rest of your smile! The whole process generally takes between 30 – 60 minutes for a single tooth.
During your appointment, we’ll also go over some ways to keep your newly bonded teeth looking their best! Most of it involves things you’re probably already doing. Brushing and flossing regularly and coming in for routine exams and cleanings are essential. We also recommend avoiding foods and beverages that can stain the bonding material, like wine and coffee. We know can be challenging, however. Fortunately, you can also prevent staining by brushing or rinsing your mouth out afterward – no need to say goodbye to your morning kick-start!
