Signs of a Dental Emergency
Some dental emergencies are more obvious than others, so how do you know if what you’re experiencing should be seen by an emergency dentist? We recommend that any oral trauma, knocked out (avulsed) teeth, crack, chips, or other types of very visible damage get treated right away. If you have damaged dental work, pulled-out crowns, missing fillings, or persistent toothaches, these shouldn’t be ignored, either! Although it may not seem like it, these are just as serious. If you’re having pain or discomfort, or bleeding that can’t be treated on your own, schedule an appointment with one of our emergency dentists right away.
There are also some important steps you should take if you’re having a dental emergency. If you’ve knocked out a tooth, rinse it with some warm water and either replace it in the socket or put it in a container of cold milk. Likewise, dental work that’s come off should be rinsed and stored in a plastic bag. If you’re bleeding, try to stop the flow using a cotton ball or some sterile gauze. The bleeding should stop within 1-2 hours. If you’re in pain, we recommend taking Aleve or Tylenol.
